About Ethan Pope

Who am I: I’m Ethan Pope, I’m 17, and I’m a graduating senior here at the Eagle Academy for Young Men in the Bronx, New York. I was accepted to Buffalo State University, and will enroll there in the fall.

What makes me unique: I’m a HUGE gamer!!  The challenge associated with videogames excites and motivates me. I try to take on and conquer these challenges in my everyday life. For example, in this school it was sometimes a challenge for students to get their voices heard.  So, I created a student voice group which connects students with the teacher and administration, helping them voice their opinions. I also write poetry, played football, as well and tutored my peers.

What I want to do: After college, at the core of it all I’m interested in gaming.  Since I was a little kid, the gaming industry has always been very impactful on me.  For example, some of the games I’ve played had huge words in them that caused me to strengthen my vocabulary and become more articulate. Now, I want to go on to design games, not only that are challenging and use helpful vocabulary, but games that take into question how we think and how we are as people.

Why I’m on DonateMe: My mother dropped out of college, and because she didn’t want me to make the same mistake, she was very hard on me during a time in which I was too young to realize why. I had issues with depression when I was a little kid, and as I got older, it worsened. In high school it led to days that I didn’t want to get out of bed or even play videogames. With proper treatment, I was able to overcome that challenge, and get into college to achieve my dream. I desperately want to become a game designer and I’m on Donateme to earn the money to facilitate the education necessary to do so. I know that I can’t achieve my full potential, so please give me any help you can. Thanks guys!
